2014 MALANDA DROUGHTMASTER SALE SUMMARY

The Atherton Tablelands played host again this year to the 11th Annual Droughtmaster Malanda Female Sale on Saturday 25th January. The registered female cattle offered were of a high standard, and some lucky buyers picked up excellent heifers and PTIC animals in an overall buyer's market. Commercial females and steers also went under the hammer at value for money.

Top priced registered droughtmaster cow with heifer calf at foot was Peter Bauer's Warrina Upperclass (P) D5 which sold at $1,250 plus GST. There was stiff bidding for this high class femme, who was PTIC again so buyers Peter and Ann Woollett from Pegasus Park Stud, Nardoo Pastoral Company got great value when they snapped her up.

The highest price for a registered unjoined droughtmaster heifer went to Barry and Barb Shephard's foundation stud Kanbrae, with Kanbrae Fear (P) D5 being sold at $1,100 plus GST to discerning buyers Kevin and Iris Lambert from Mt Fisher Stud. Iris nearly landed another lot when she raised her hand a couple of times and the auctioneer accepted her bid when she was actually only gesturing for her grandchild to move away from the rails!

The best priced pen of unjoined commercial heifers were from Steve Rockley's Dunmore Droughtmaster Stud, and these were knocked down to the day's bulk buyer Dave Dickson of Tarzali at $600 plus GST. The top priced pen of 13 month + steers from the Drury family at Ravenshoe also went for good value at $525 plus GST (est. $1.60/kg).

The day was a great opportunity for droughtmaster studs and cattle producers to get together and the post-sale BBQ was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Jeff Williams, Peter Bauer and Kellie Williams for their efforts in organising the sale with agents.
