2013 MALANDA DROUGHTMASTER SALE SUMMARY The annual Droughtmaster Female and Steer Sale was conducted at Malanda Saleyards on 26 January, 2013. All cattle catalogued made it to the sale despite the very wet conditions prior to the sale. Top priced registered cow and calf was sold on account of B & B Shephard, Kanbrae Stud for $1,200 to W & S Shannon of Araluen Stud, Tully. Top price registered cow, pregnancy tested in calf, owned by P.C. & J.A. McCowan of Kur-A-Mar Stud sold for $1,000 to Nardoo Pastoral of Cloncurry. Top priced heifer sold on account of B & B Shephard, Kanbrae Stud, sold for $1,400 Nardoo Pastoral. Five very good quality registered heifers offered on account of Bill & Sue Shannon of Araluen Stud, Tully sold to a top of $1,350 and averaged $1,110 per head. Tully High School sold three heifers to top of $1,100 and averaged $970. Michael and Lynette Cumming of Bartleview Stud had a 100% clearance with their seven young heifers averaging $700 per head. Four commercial cows sold to a top of $825 on account of P & J McCowen to J.T. & V.R. Finlayson, and top price pen of three heifers offered by Stephen Rockley, of Dunmore Stud sold for $550 per head to Chris Symonds. All steers yarded were sold to spirited bidders with the top price pen of four steers on account of D.J. & J.E. Smith, of Stedon Stud selling for $585 which equates to $1.80 per kg.
